Bug? Import of Access Database Produces Error
KevinNicholls asked:
I have an Access database that I used for my 1st iteration of a datamodel and uploaded it successfully last week. I updated the Access Database on my desktop, and attempted to upload the new version with the "Import Data from an Access Database" utility.

I browsed for the database, checked the "overwrite existing tables" box, and clicked import.  About 5 sec later, I got a " The page cannot be displayed " error from url "http://commodityadvantage.westside.com/?_admin=appendmdb"

FYI- I had changed some column names in the existing tables, but most of my changes between the 2 database versions were adding tables.

  KevinNicholls responded:
Just found the problem - DBSize is more than 5MB. (please excuse my inability to read at times).

You may have already done this, but if any others run into this problem, note that you can zip the mdb and usually get very good compression.  That will allow you to upload some large MDB files.  I recently uploaded at 26MB mdb file that was 4.7MB when zip'd.

One more trick:  Some versions of Access files bloat over time when you are doing a lot of work in form and report design.  To unbloat them, look under the Access Tools | Database Utilities menu for a command named "Compact Database" or "Compact and Repair"  (it's changed names over time).  This gets rid of all the old bloat.  If you do that, and then zip the result with winzip and still have a file that's larger than 5 megs that you need to upload, let us know and we'll find a solution for you.
